DEBT
2006

Wool, Dye, Acrylic Yarn, Embroidery Floss

12 hand-felted flags that are embroidered with
brown yarn to spell out the word "DEBT". These
twelve flags represent 12 of the 36 'developing'
countries driven into debt by the IMF and the World
Bank, who are exploited for their natural resources
by our nation's CEO's. Embroidered on the surface
in white yarn is a quote by Ernesto Che Guevara
which reads:

"We must bear in mind that imperialism is a world
system, the last stage of capitalism, and it must be
defeated in a world confrontation. Our share, the
responsibility of the poor and underdeveloped of the
world, is to eliminate the foundations of imperialism; our
oppressed nations, from where they extract capital, raw
materials, and cheap labor, and to which they export new
capital instruments of domination, thus submerging us in
absolute dependence."
